The name Seven Stones comes from the legend of the seven individual rock formations throughout the Similkameen Valley known as The Seven Stones. Seven Stones Winery cultivates 20 acres of bench land overlooking British Columbia's spectacular Similkameen River Valley. In 2000 and 2001, the estate vineyard was planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and followed up with a 2005 planting of Petit Verdot. Co- proprietors Vivianne and George Hanson have developed a solid reputation for growing and selling exceptional quality fruit from the site. The wine style George Hanson has created captures this amazing terroir and makes for serious, complex wines needing serious attention. Their passion for good wine and sharing with friends is their inspiration. The Seven Stones tasting room is located at 1143 Highway 3, and is a beautiful scenic drive 17 minutes west of Osoyoos and 7 minutes east of Cawston.

Both my wife Janet and I are big fans of Seven Stones and have been buying their wines since they opened up shop. I particularly like the Pinot Noirs but I have just received a case of the Legend and will have to wait while it cellars for a few years. In the meantime we enjoy the Meritage, the Cab Francs and my wife really likes the Pinot Rose. In late May Vivianne donated a bottle of Cab Franc for our tour bus full of devoted oenophiles and they very much enjoyed it. Both Vivianne and George deserve full credit. The view are terrific and it is a great place to stop for a glass of wine on the back deck and a bite (well, you have to bring your own).

As one of the contributors to this website, I try not to leave too many comments. The website tries very hard to be winery-agnostic and not favour one winery over another. However, occasionally I have an experience that I feel as though I must write about. I visited Seven Stones for the first time this past June. The first thing I noticed when I arrived was the gorgeous view. Looking east and west along the valley, I could see for miles in either direction. North and south were mountains. The grandeur was inspiring. I then had the pleasure of meeting Vivianne. Her and her husband, George, are the proprietors of this fine winery. She was very relaxed, funny and witty. She made the tasting experience one to remember. The red wines I tried were awesome; the best ones I tried that day. The whole experience was wonderful. I highly recommend Seven Stones.
